How do I use the device?


At Optimus, we believe great things don’t need to be complicated.

Less is more, and we recommend small and regular interventions as part of a planned programme of care, developed in consultation with your vet or animal practitioner.

Simply select the therapy required by pressing and holding in until the light turns on, the red light button [R] for red and infrared, or blue light button [B] for blue light phototherapy,

Place the device against clean skin on the affected area for the recommended treatment time.  The red/blue light indicator will be lit at all times when the device is in operation.  At the end of treatment, press and hold for 1 second the red [R] or blue [B] button to switch the device off.

How long do I use the Optimus Lumina device for?

Treatment times vary so the device doesn’t have any pre-set timings.  Recommended treatment times are:

Skin conditions: between 30 and 60 seconds

Muscle, tendons and ligaments: between 1 and 2 minutes.

Joint and bone problems: between 1 and 2 minutes.

The treatment time will depend on the depth of the injury and the type tissue. .

How frequently and for how long should I use the device?

How often you apply the treatment depends on the injury or condition.  The recommended use is:

Acute injuries:

Treat the injured area as soon as possible once a day for seven to 10 days, to encourage cell and tissue repair. Subsequently treat two to three times a week until healed.

In case of skin injury or wound treat daily until healed.

Chronic conditions:

Treat the injured area once a day for five to seven days.

It is important to cover the whole affected area, this will aid to reduce inflammation and pain.

Continue treatment two to three times a week for two to three weeks.

When the condition has stabilised treat once a week to keep the symptoms under control and animal comfort.

Infectious conditions: 

Treatment with the blue light is not a replacement for antibiotics or other prescription medications but will kill superficial bacteria.

Post-operative treatments (blue light): 

Treat directly after surgery (particularly important in cases of post-surgical treatment on horses). Prompt treatment will assist in the prevention of proud flesh formation. Treat daily for five (5) to ten (10) days to assist with pain relief, faster healing, reduced scar tissue/proud flesh formation, immune stimulation and swelling reduction.


How do I look after my Optimus Lumina device?

For best results, store the device in a cool, dry location in the pouch provided. Batteries are adversely affected by extreme temperatures. Avoid leaving in the car on very hot days or overnight in winter.

How long does the battery on my device last?

Each full charge of Optimus Lumina will deliver approximately 5 hours of treatment time. Please be aware cold temperatures can reduce battery runtime.

A battery warning light is located on the back of the device, above the charging point. When the battery is low (30%), the warning light will flash multiple times, indicating the device needs to be connected to either a portable or mains charger in order to continue operation. Lumina is safe to use when connected to a power source

If storing your Lumina device for a long period of time, we recommend storing fully charged in order to reduce the risk of battery damage.

How do I clean my Optimus Lumina?

We recommend cleaning before and after use with the aid of a soft clean cloth and either surgical spirit, or rubbing alcohol if required to clean the transparent surface of the device.

What size is the device?

Ergonomically designed to fit comfortably in the hand, Lumina provides excellent grip and for animal practitioners and pet owners working in all weathers. The actual size is 75 x 128 x 20 mm

When should I not use this product?

Red, infrared and blue light therapy is not a treatment for all ailments and at no point should other prescribed medical treatments be discontinued without the prior consent of a veterinary professional.  It is a complementary treatment intended for use by qualified practitioners, or for pet owners following advice from their animal practitioner.

Lumina is not suitable as a treatment for cancer or for animals suffering from infectious conditions.

It is not recommended for use on pets, horses and livestock, that are pregnant or suffer from epilepsy

 For animals suffering from chronic conditions, it is possible that phototherapy may induce an adverse reaction. In this instance, discontinue the treatment.

Does Lumina come with a warranty?


Yes, your Lumina device comes with a full 12 month warranty from the day you buy your device.
